The upper is made from the skin-friendly, hard-wearing synthetic material Birko-Flor® in a sophisticated nubuck look which boasts a texture and color that could almost be mistaken for real leather.

    Materials

    UPPER MATERIAL: BIRKO FLOR NUBUCK
    The look and feel of Birko-Flor® Nubuck is an almost perfect imitation of authentic nubuck leather.

    INSOLE: MICROFIBRE
    Microfibre is a skin-friendly material which is soft and yet tear-resistant. Because they are free of animal products they are used as the covering material for the lining of footbeds in vegan products, among other things.

    FOOTBED MATERIAL: CORK
    Cork is a sustainable material extracted from the bark layer of the cork oak. This natural product is insulating and offers very good cushioning.

    OUTSOLE: EVA
    EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) is a high-quality, very light, elastic material with very good cushioning. As a result, it smooths out slight irregularities in the floor and ensures that every step is softly cushioned.

    Good customer service online, more variety needed for narrow feet

    The Birkenstocks I ordered through Bash Africa were too big, so I needed to exchange them. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the ones I wanted in the same size, so I had to try to find a new pair. I received fast responses to my emails which was great. I didn't want to have to wait for couriers to collect, then wait days for a new delivery, so requested to go into a store to exchange instead. I went to the Waterfront store and ended up choosing a more expensive pair because there weren't many narrow models available, so I had to pay more than I bargained for. The lady in the shop was very sweet, but she seemed to have no idea how to do an exchange and I ended up being there for a very long time, waiting while she called her friend and supervisor for help. She apologized, so I am not really too upset by it, but it would have been nice to get a discount or something for having to wait so long to have my shoes exchanged. I love my Birks, so would appreciate it if we can get all the nice colours in narrow size too. Otherwise, great service from the online store.
